Biography

Rasidi Roslan is an accomplished researcher and educator born from Ranau, Sabah, Malaysia. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science, which he earned in 2015 from the National University of Malaysia under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Sarani Zakaria. His doctoral research focused on investigating the curing kinetics of bio-based phenol-formaldehyde resin, demonstrating his early interest in sustainable materials.

Since completing his Ph.D., Rasidi Roslan has been an integral part of the Faculty of Industrial Sciences and Technology at Universiti Malaysia Pahang. He holds the position of Senior Lecturer in the Material Technology Programme. His research endeavors center around the valorization of lignocellulosic biomass, particularly agricultural waste from oil palm plantations, aiming to convert them into valuable, high-added-value products. His work demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly solutions for the utilization of renewable resources.

Currently, Rasidi's research revolves around the fractionation of biomass using innovative techniques like deep eutectic solvent (DES) and acid hydrotrope (AH) via microwave-assisted heating. This cutting-edge approach allows him to extract cellulose, cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), and lignin from biomass. The extracted cellulose and CNC serve as fillers or self-healing accelerators in thermoplastic, thermoset, and UV-curable resin applications. On the other hand, the lignin is transformed into bio-based polybenzoxazine, UV-curable coating, and phenolic resin, showcasing the breadth of his research contributions.

Rasidi Roslan's accomplishments extend beyond the laboratory, as evidenced by his impressive publication record. He has published one chapter in a book and over 30 articles in esteemed local and international journals. Additionally, his expertise and leadership qualities have led him to secure multiple research and development grants. As a project leader, technical project leader, and key researcher, he has successfully obtained various research grants, including TED1, LRGS, FRGS, and several industrial projects, totaling more than RM2.5 million in funding.

Recognized for his expertise and contributions to the field, Rasidi Roslan has been appointed and referred by renowned industries, such as NanoMalaysia Berhad and Neu Solutions Sdn Bhd, further solidifying his reputation as an influential figure in the industry.

In the pursuit of knowledge and international collaborations, Rasidi embarked on a research exchange journey from June 2022 to May 2023. During this time, he joined Prof. Bonifazi's group at the esteemed Universität Wien (Vienna, Austria) as a visiting researcher. His work focused on the functionalization, blending, and re-processing of chromophores into vitrimers for the H2020-MSCA-RISE-2020 project, expanding his horizons and fostering cross-border partnerships.
